A Song That Points to Him
The Heart of Worship at Lynn Lane Baptist Church
By JD Miller, Worship Pastor
Music has a way of reaching places in the heart that words alone often can’t. At Lynn Lane Baptist Church, our music ministry isn’t about performance—it’s about pointing people to Jesus. Every note, every lyric, and every moment of worship is meant to draw us closer to Him.
As a worship pastor, my desire is simple: that when people walk into a service, they don’t leave talking about the music—they leave talking about the goodness of God.
Worship Is More Than a Song
Worship doesn’t begin when the first chord is played, and it doesn’t end when the last song is finished. It’s a lifestyle. What we do on Sunday mornings is just an overflow of what God is doing in our hearts throughout the week.
Our goal is to help create an environment where people feel free to worship—whether that’s through singing out loud, quietly reflecting, or simply taking in the truth of the lyrics. There’s no one “right way” to worship—just a genuine heart turned toward the Lord.
A Blend of Generations and Styles
One of the things I love most about Lynn Lane is the mix of generations worshiping together. That’s reflected in our music. We strive to honor the rich heritage of hymns while also embracing modern worship songs that speak to today’s church.
Songs like “Amazing Grace” remind us of the foundation of our faith, while newer songs help us express what God is doing right now. It’s not about choosing one over the other—it’s about bringing them together in a way that unites the body of Christ.
Excellence with Humility
We believe in doing our best for the Lord. That means preparing well, practicing faithfully, and leading with excellence. But excellence never replaces humility. The platform isn’t a stage for recognition—it’s a place of service.
Our team is made up of volunteers who love the Lord and use their gifts to serve Him. From musicians to vocalists to those working behind the scenes in sound and media, every role matters.
Worship That Carries Into the Week
If the only time we worship is during a church service, we’re missing something powerful. True worship carries into Monday morning, into our workplaces, our homes, and our daily interactions.
My prayer is that the songs we sing together on Sunday stay with you—echoing in your heart throughout the week, reminding you of God’s faithfulness, His grace, and His presence.
An Invitation to Join In
Whether you’ve sung in church your whole life or you’re not sure you know the words yet, you’re invited. Worship isn’t about having it all together—it’s about coming before God just as you are.
And if you feel called to serve through music or production, there’s a place for you here. We’d love to help you grow and use your gifts for something bigger than yourself.
At the end of it all, it’s not about the lights, the sound, or the songs.
It’s about Him.
